Copy-paste templates for requesting reviews - after a project, after a milestone, and as a follow-up.
You know you should be collecting testimonials. But every time you sit down to write that email, you freeze. It feels awkward. Pushy. Needy.
Here's the truth: most happy clients are glad to help. They just need you to ask - and make it easy. These templates take the guesswork out of the request.
Before You Send: Three Rules
Rule 1: Time it right. Ask within a few days of a positive moment - project delivery, a compliment, a successful launch. Don't wait a month.
Rule 2: Make it easy. Don't ask them to write a paragraph from scratch. Send a link to a form with guiding questions. Tools like Quoted create this for you automatically.
Rule 3: Keep it short. Your request email should be 3-5 sentences. Not a novel.
Template 1: Right After Project Delivery
Subject: Quick favor?
Hey [Name],
So glad you're happy with [project/deliverable]! If you have 30 seconds,
I'd really appreciate a quick testimonial - it helps me attract more
clients like you.
Here's the link: [your quoted.love link]
No pressure at all. Thanks for being great to work with!
[Your name]
Why it works: Catches them at peak satisfaction. "30 seconds" sets the right expectation. The compliment at the end makes them feel valued.
Template 2: After They Compliment You
Subject: Thanks - and a small ask
Hey [Name],
That really made my day - thank you! Would you mind putting that into a
quick testimonial? It means a lot when potential clients hear it directly
from someone like you.
Takes about 30 seconds: [your quoted.love link]
Thanks!
[Your name]
Why it works: Uses their own positive words as the hook. They've already said something nice - you're just asking them to formalize it.
Template 3: After a Milestone or Launch
Subject: We did it!
Hey [Name],
Now that [website/campaign/product] is live and getting great results,
I'd love to capture your experience working with us. A short testimonial
would mean the world.
Here's a quick form (30 seconds): [your quoted.love link]
Congrats on the launch - excited to see where it goes!
[Your name]
Why it works: Ties the request to a concrete achievement. The testimonial will naturally reference results.
Template 4: For Long-Term Clients
Subject: Would love your feedback
Hey [Name],
We've been working together for a while now, and I realized I never asked
- would you be open to leaving a short testimonial? It really helps other
businesses feel confident about working with us.
Quick form here: [your quoted.love link]
Appreciate you either way!
[Your name]
Why it works: Acknowledges the relationship. "I never asked" makes it feel personal, not automated.
Template 5: After a Referral
Subject: Thanks for the referral!
Hey [Name],
Thank you so much for referring [person/company] to us - that means a lot.
Since you clearly think we're doing something right ;) - would you mind
leaving a quick testimonial? It would help other people find us too.
Here's the link: [your quoted.love link]
You're the best.
[Your name]
Why it works: Someone who refers you is already your advocate. This is the easiest "yes" you'll ever get.
Template 6: The Gentle Follow-Up
Subject: Re: Quick favor?
Hey [Name],
Just a gentle nudge on the testimonial - totally understand if you're
swamped. The link is here if you get a minute:
[your quoted.love link]
No worries either way!
[Your name]
Why it works: One follow-up is fine. Keep it light. Don't guilt-trip.
Template 7: Batch Request (Multiple Clients)
Subject: Help us help others
Hey [Name],
We're building out our testimonials page and would love to include your
voice. If you've had a good experience working with us, a quick review
would mean a lot.
It takes about 30 seconds: [your quoted.love link]
Thanks for being part of what we're building!
[Your name]
Why it works: Good for sending to a batch of past clients. Generic enough for anyone, but still warm.
Pro Tips
Send from your personal email, not a "noreply" address. Testimonial requests are personal. They should come from a person.
Don't offer incentives. "Leave a review and get 10% off" cheapens the testimonial and may violate platform rules. Genuine reviews are worth more.
Follow up once, then stop. If they don't respond after one follow-up, respect that. Not everyone wants to leave a public review.
Make the form dead simple. If you're using Quoted, the collection form handles everything - star rating, text, name, photo. The client doesn't need to create an account or figure anything out.
